South Korea imports more US pork amid beef dispute

South Korea has increased its US pork imports sharply to 48,550 tonnes from January to April, up 12 percent on-year.

US pork imports grew in May due to the bird flu outbreak and mad cow disease scares in regard to US beef, according to an official at the Ministry for Agriculture, Food, Forestry and Fisheries.

Pork importers said the increase is due to consumer preference for US non-frozen meat and that pork consumption in South Korea traditionally rises during the summer.
