Cognizant partners with Tidal to bring advanced ocean information platform to aquaculture industry

Cognizant, an international IT services and consulting company, has joined forces with Tidal, a project under Alphabet's Moonshot Factory, to make Tidal's innovative ocean information platform accessible to the aquaculture market, Global Seafood Alliance reported.

Leveraging underwater perception, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and automation, Tidal's digital technology solution gathers and analyses data to provide valuable insights.

Through the collaboration with Cognizant, these cutting-edge technologies will be made widely available to the aquaculture industry, enabling intelligent decision-making, operational resilience, and enhanced efficiency within a stringent regulatory environment.

Previously limited to select pilot partners, Tidal's platform has proven its value by offering data-driven insights to improve sustainability and operational efficiency. With Cognizant's software and systems integration expertise, the aim is to expand the availability of the Tidal platform to the broader aquaculture market.

Over the past five years, Tidal has worked closely with aquaculture companies to develop a system capable of interpreting complex ocean environments. The current platform, which utilises Tidal's AI trained on 8 billion underwater observations of fish behaviour across 900 terabytes of operational video, has undergone rigorous testing and validation.

Drawing on its extensive relationships with global enterprises in the blue economy, Cognizant will assist companies in seamlessly integrating Tidal's technology into their enterprise systems. By connecting data from various aspects of their operations, businesses can gain valuable insights and make informed decisions that enhance efficiency throughout the entire value chain.

Stig Martin Fiska, Global Head of Cognizant Ocean, said that digital technology in ocean industries not only for improves resilience in the face of a changing environment, but also addresses pressing global challenges such as food production, renewable energy, and climate change.

The collaboration between Cognizant and Tidal aims to foster innovation and collaboration within aquaculture and other sectors of the Blue Economy, ultimately making a meaningful impact on ocean health and global decarbonisation.

Neil Dave, founder and CEO of Tidal, said that through the partnership with Cognizant, they seek to expand their success in the Norwegian aquaculture industry and extend their impact to other sectors of the Blue Economy, contributing to ocean health and worldwide decarbonisation efforts.
