Icelandic firm Sildarvinnslan has purchased Norwegian salmon giant Bremesco
Sildarvinnslan, an Icelandic fishing and processing company, has agreed to buy a 34.2% stake in Arctic Fish Holding from Bremesco Holding Limited for NOK 1.089 billion (~US$111 million; NOK 1 = US$0.1), Fish Information & Services reported.
Arctic Fish Holding AS owns 100% of Arctic Fish, one of Iceland's largest fish farming operations, with sites in the Westfjords and sea production licences for 27,000 tonnes.
Gunnthór Ingvason, CEO of Sildarvinnslan, said salmon farming is a rapidly growing industry that they have been closely monitoring for several years, with increased investment and expertise seen in recent years.
He said they are buying a third of Arctic Fish Holding AS, which is primarily owned by a Norwegian company with extensive expertise and experience.
He also said the company has big goals and is in the midst of a period of expansion adding that this as an opportunity for aquaculture producers in this area to work together more closely.
