Philippine corn farmers who harvested 10 tonnes per hectare with hybrid seeds honored in Cagayan

The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 2 (DA-RFO2 for Cagayan Valley) in the Philippines recently honored 44 corn farmers during Farmers and Fishermen's Month on May 27 in Tuguegarao City, the province of Cagayan.
DA RFO2 executive director Rose Mary Aquino said those honored in the Corn Farmer Achievers category in the Cagayan Valley were able to harvest 10 tonnes of corn per hectare using hybrid seeds during the wet season.
Aquino said the achievers received a plaque of recognition and agricultural aid such as two bags of corn seed and two bags of inorganic fertiliser worth ₱12,600.
According to the DA RFO2, there were 21 individuals from the province of Isabela, 20 from Cagayan and three from Quirino being honored.
"We aim to give importance to every farmer in the region for their great contribution to the country's maintenance and security of corn production," Aquino said.
The Cagayan Valley region is the second-highest corn producer in the country. Isabela province contributed much to the corn production, followed by Cagayan province, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya.
Aquino added that honoring farmer achievers is an initiative by her office "to give incentives to the farmers in Cagayan Valley who have excelled and contributed so much in farming."
