Skretting launches Elevia, a new shrimp feed for hatcheries and nurseries
Norway-based aquafeed company Skretting has unveiled Elevia, a new shrimp feed specifically developed for use in hatcheries and nurseries, aiming to enhance nutrition and water quality, Skretting reported.
Designed to optimise larval performance and simplify feed management, the company said Elevia is a precisely engineered micro diet that provides superior nutrition and stability. By replicating the natural feeding approach of shrimp larvae, this next-generation solution surpasses traditional aquafeed ingredients and feeding methods, setting a new benchmark for hatchery performance.
Elevia incorporates sustainable raw materials, including essential long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, algae-derived DHA, and hydrolyzed marine proteins, enabling shrimp to develop into robust and healthy post larvae with enhanced adaptability in nursery environments.
Marita Montserrate, Technical Director at Skretting Ecuador, said that Elevia reduces production cycles in hatcheries, offers shrimp the necessary energetic reserve for transportation to farms and acclimatisation, and ensures improved performance in nurseries. Elevia also lowers the cost of post-larvae production, promotes increased survival rates, and enhances growth throughout the entire production cycle.
One of Elevia's notable benefits is its ability to enhance shrimp resilience and immune system function, enabling them to better cope with environmental challenges. As a result, shrimp production becomes more reliable and successful, mitigating risks associated with water condition fluctuations and other factors.
Through its advanced formulation, physical properties, and colour, Elevia significantly reduces the need for multiple diets and flakes, streamlining operations and feed management. Another key feature is its capacity to maintain water stability.
The unique composition and encapsulation of omega-3 fatty acids prevent lipid leaching into the production system, ensuring clean and uncompromised water quality. As a result, intact feed particles remain stable for extended periods, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This not only promotes optimal water conditions but also facilitates essential system maintenance, while alleviating strain on bio- and mechanical-filters.
Skretting produces Elevia at its LifeStart facility in France. Currently available in Ecuador, the innovative shrimp feed will soon be introduced to other markets.
