Prairie Swine Centre opens new sow research unit

Prairie Swine Centre has opened its new Sow Research Unit, a joint initiative of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture.

The sow barn incorporates accommodating practices such as increasing the age at weaning.

Costs reduction and efficiency improvement are the most important aspects of modern pork production, according to Dr. John Patience, president of Prairie Swine Centre.

Patience added that the new barn has embraced the important concept in design, equipment selection as well as operational procedures.
