UK Prime Minister assures Britain will maintain strict animal welfare standards

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson told British parliament that the country will protect its animal welfare standards when asked if the UK will import chlorinated chicken and hormone-treated beef, Reuters reported.

UK farmers are concerned that the government will allow US chicken that has been washed with chlorine, as well as beef treated with hormones in the upcoming UK-US free trade deal.

However, the UK Prime Minister maintained that the country will uphold its strict food standards. In a speech to the UK parliament, Prime Minister Johnson said the country would not only maintain its high animal welfare standards but strengthen it further.
