Irish authorities close down two meat companies on food-safety issues
 

 

Two Irish meat companies, Central Supermarket and Bilal Irish Meat have been forced to close down for breaches of food-safety legislation.

 

Dr John O'Brien, chief executive of Food Safety Authority of Ireland FSAI, warned food-business operators to be vigilant in complying with food-safety laws.

 

Due to the usual increase in food poisoning during summer, O'Brien reminded food businesses that refrigerating food to the correct temperatures and to abide by the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) programme.

 

O'Brien said food business operators must recognize that the legal onus is on them to be responsible and ensure that the food they sell is safe for public consumption.
