Indonesia tryptophan prices drop sharply as weak demand and ample supply pressure market

Indonesia's tryptophan market experienced a steep decline over the first half of May 2026, driven by weak feed sector demand, squeezed livestock margins, and improved supply availability.
Prices fell from Rp148,400/kg (US$8.56) in early May to Rp129,600/kg (US$7.48), before dropping further to Rp97,411/kg (US$5.48) by mid-May.
Market sentiment remained subdued as feed millers and producers reduced procurement and relied on hand-to-mouth purchasing due to poor downstream profitability and high inventory levels. Additional downward pressure came from stronger export availability from China and slower regional demand across Southeast Asia.
Prices are expected to remain under pressure in the near term amid continued weak buying interest and ample supply conditions.
