Philippines supports swine raisers in Caraga region with aid package
The Philippines' Department of Agriculture in the Caraga Region (DA-13) is providing continuous assistance to swine raisers affected by African swine fever (ASF) through a PHP 5.5 million (US$93,500) support package, Philippine News Agency reported.
DA-13 handed over the aid package to the Tigao Farmers Development Cooperative (TFDC) in Cortes, Surigao del Sur. This initiative is part of the agency's Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) programme.
The aid package includes the establishment of a bio-secured swine facility, the provision of 75 piglets, feeds, biologics support, and disinfectants. Jekem Sanchez of DA-13 emphasised the importance of collaboration in ensuring the project's success and sustainability. He conveyed this message on behalf of DA-13 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen during the turnover ceremony.
Cortes town, specifically Barangay Matho, was one of the areas affected by ASF during the 2020 outbreak in the region.
TFDC chairperson Gerson Pagara expressed gratitude for the government's support, stating that the project will help cooperative members recover from the impact of ASF.
