Average pork prices in China edged up last week
China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said the average pork price in the country tracked from May 30 to June 2 was CNY 21.03 (~US$3.16; CNY 1 = US$0.15) per kg, up 0.1% week-on-week, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The price was down 5.3% compared to a year ago.
China has implemented a three-tiered early-warning system to warn of excessive swine price swings.
To maintain the stability of hog production capacity, livestock farms and households in China are advised to make reasonable production and operation decisions.
The China Merchandise Reserve Management Centre recently said that the country will purchase 40,000 tonnes of frozen pork for its state reserves.
