Kazakhstan forecasts 2009 grain harvest 15 to 20 percent higher than 2008
Kazakhstan is likely to harvest 15 percent to 20 percent more grain this year than in 2008, when 15.6 million tonnes was harvested, Deputy Agriculture Minister Arman Evniev said Tuesday (June 9), as quoted by the agriculture ministry's s press service.
The agriculture ministry said earlier that Kazakhstan's grain harvest this year was likely to exceed last year's harvest by 10 percent.
Evniev said spring grains in Kazakhstan were planted on 16.3 million hectares this year, 714,000 hectares more than last year. Spring wheat was planted on 13.9 million hectares, 875,200 hectares more than last year.
