Cargill to build bio-diesel plant next to soybean facility
Cargill, Inc. will construct a bio-diesel plant and glycerin refinery adjacent to its existing soybean crush facility in Iowa, the company announced Jun 8.
The bio-diesel plant's annual capacity is 142.5 million litres, while the glycerin refinery's capacity is 13,500 tonnes.
Cargill hopes to use animal fat or waste grease for bio-diesel production in future, to counteract the soybean oil and petroleum market's price volatility.
The bio-diesel plant has been designed to meet the requirements for BQ-9000 certification, an accepted industry standard.
