Brazil's poultry export volume rises, revenue drops

For the month of May, the poultry export volume of Brazil increased, while revenue dropped, Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA) reported.

The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) said 399,400 tonnes of poultry products got shipped, up 4.5% from May 2019, with revenue sliding 17.3% to 546.3 million.

From the beginning of the year through May, 1.7 million tonnes of poultry was shipped, up 1.7% from a year ago, while revenue was down 3.7% to US$2.6 billion.

Six out of the top 15 biggest destinations for Brazilian poultry products are Arab countries. China was the biggest importer, at 289,600 tonnes through May. Japan ranked second at 176,300 tonnes, followed by Saudi Arabia 176,200 tonnes and the UAE at 136,600 tonnes.

Kuwait placed eighth at 55,000 tonnes; Yemen placed 11th at 44,300 tonnes; Qatar was 13th at 36,400 tonnes; and Libya ranked 15th at 31,600 tonnes of poultry imported from Brazil.

"China further cemented its status as the biggest importer of poultry and pork, and it was one of the drivers of our good results in exports. This trend will likely persist in the months ahead when it comes to Asia," a press release quoted ABPA chair Ricardo Santin as saying.
