Russia boosts meat, poultry production in April

 

 

Russia increased production of beef, pork and poultry in April from a year earlier as it continue its quest for agricultural self-sufficiency.

 

According to the Federal State Statistics Service, known as Rosstat, production rose 34% to 104,000 tonnes for pork and 18% to 16,300 tonnes for beef.

 

Poultry output increased 6.9% to 302,000 tonnes. Cattle and poultry production by live weight rose 9.7% to 900,000 tonnes, according to the report.

 

Russia's cattle herd dipped 1.2% from a year earlier to 20.9 million head cows dropped 1.8% to 8.9 million. Hogs gained 8.6% to 20.2 million and sheep and goats bumped up 1.8% to 26.4 million.
