Bird flu returns to Vietnam's Quang Nam
Bird flu strikes again in Vietnam's central province of Quang Nam after nearly two years of being under control, affecting about 10,000 poultry in Duy Thanh commune, Duy Xuyen district.
More than 50% of the affected poultry were unvaccinated, Nguyen Van Hoa, head of the district's Veterinary Office was cited as saying, and adding that they have destroyed most of the poultry to prevent the disease's spread.
The disease now remains in the central highlands province of Dak Lak.
Bird flu has attacked 17 cities and provinces in Vietnam so far this year, including Quang Tri, Bac Kan, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Tuyen Quang, Khanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Dien Bien, Soc Trang, Nam Dinh, Ha Tinh, Kon Tum and Ha Giang.
Last year, it broke out in 68 communes of 34 districts in 17 cities and provinces with total destroyed number of 127,000 heads.
