Cargill announces advances in nutrition for young pigs
Press release
Cargill Animal Nutrition has announced new advances in nutrition for young pigs. The new advances enhance the nutrient intake, based on a more rigorous approach in managing inputs for the pig's digestive system.
Cargill has developed technologies that focus on defining, assessing and delivering nutrients specifically tailored for the young pig.
The company is able to provide a preferred gut environment for the pig, by focusing on various nutrients such as carbohydrates, bacillus, organic acids and yeast, to name a few. This nutrient approach provides a more favourable balance of gut micro-flora and, consequently, a better environment to support intake and growth.
Mark Newcomb, an innovation development manager at the Cargill Innovation Center in Elk River, Minnesota, noted that, "providing pigs key nutrients helps maintain an optimum gut micro-flora balance that enables pigs to eat more and grow consistently." This careful balance is not simply ingredient-driven, but instead features unique nutrients defined by Cargill technology and supplied to the young pig.
Cargill developed a unique carbohydrate-balancing technology, named the Ideal Carbohydrate Balance, to deliver optimum performance in young pigs. Dietary carbohydrates make up roughly two-thirds of the young pig's diet.
Ideal Carbohydrate Balance adjusts the levels of starches, sugars, and complex carbohydrates to support pig performance. Pork producers may contact their local Cargill representative to learn more about the nutritional advances available for young pigs.
