Vietnam set to license two more African swine fever vaccines
Vietnam is expected to license two more African swine fever (ASF) vaccines developed by AVAC Vietnam Co Ltd. and Dabaco Group JSC before the end of 2022, Vietnam Plus reported.
In March 2022, swine farms began testing the AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine, with a 95% efficacy rate. AVAC is finalising legal steps to register the vaccine for circulation.
Since March 2022, Dabaco's DACOVAC-ASF2 vaccine has been tested and evaluated.
In February 2019, an outbreak of ASF was discovered in Vietnam, which quickly spread to all 63 provinces and cities across the country, resulting in the culling of over 6 million swine.
Vietnam lost over VND 30 trillion (~US$1.29 billion; VND 1000 = US$0.043) as a result of the disease, and the national consumer price index was affected in 2020. ASF is still being reported in many places across the country.
Vietnam recently approved the commercial distribution of the NAVET-ASFVAC vaccine developed by Navetco National Veterinary JSC (Navetco), allowing the country to become the first in the world to successfully research, develop, and commercialise an ASF vaccine.
With the help of US experts, the company began developing the vaccine in February 2020. Following lab tests, the vaccine was found to protect at least 80% of immunised swine, with immunity lasting for six months.
