Fourth GrainsConnect Canada terminal to be built in Alberta, Canada

 

 

GrainsConnect Canada, a strategic joint venture between GrainCorp and Zen-Noh Grain Corporation, has announced the location of its fourth independent, high throughput grain terminal.

 

Subject to necessary approvals, GrainsConnect Canada plans to build a terminal in Huxley, 120km northeast of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

 

In line with previously announced sites, it will feature a state-of-the-art 35,000 tonne grain terminal with the ability to load 134 rail cars in under 14 hours.

 

GrainsConnect Canada Huxley will be the first site in the region with a 134-car rail loop, thus increasing efficiency and reliability to growers in the area.

 

"As we continue to invest in new facilities and deliver a competitive edge to Canadian growers, we are seeing strong support for our network," GrainsConnect Canada president Warren Stow said. "We will have two sites in Saskatchewan and two in Alberta, offering choice and access to one of the most efficient supply chains to the West Coast.

 

"This is the second site announcement this year and we are excited to invest in regional Canada. There has been strong grower interest in this area for more choice and we are excited to deliver a state of the site facility to the region," Stow added. "As we have seen at the previous sites, at least 50 jobs will be created during construction as well as 12 - 15 full time jobs once completed."

 

Stow thanked GrainsConnect's rail partner CN and the Alberta Provincial Government for their "enthusiastic support" for the project.

 

CN will serve the terminal, bringing grain across its network to key export gateways.

We believe that innovation and investment are integral to the future of Canada's export grain supply chain," CN's director of sales (Canada), Jay Roberts, said.

Subject to necessary approvals, construction is planned to commence mid-year with an expected completion date of 2019.
