Chile's hog slaughter rises 0.8% at end of Q1 2022


 

Chile's hog slaughter increased 0.8% at the end of the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, going from 1,383,294 to 1,394,698 head.

 

Similarly, pork production increased by 0.7% in the same period, reaching 144,000 tonnes.

 

For international trade, exports reached 54,200 tonnes in the first quarter of the year, representing a 22.9% drop compared to the same period of the previous year (70,200 tonnes).

 

Likewise, imports saw a decrease of 43.7% compared to the first quarter of 2021, going from 37,700 tonnes to 21,300 tonnes. Finally, estimates for per capita consumption show a growth of 0.5% during this period, from 22.7kg/inhabitant. to 22.9kg/inhabitant.

 

According to the latest livestock and poultry estimates report published on April 6 by the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service, pork production in Chile this year will reach a total of 595,000 tonnes, representing a growth of 1% compared to 2021.

 

As for exports, the entity estimates that these will fall by 6.7% compared to the previous year, reaching 250,000 tonnnes. Imports would decrease by 6.4%, reaching 175,000 tonnes.
