Ukraine's winter crop sowings shows good condition

 

 

As of May 31, 2012, Ukraine's winter crops sowings are in good and satisfactory conditions over 5.16 million hectares or 67.5% of the sprouted areas, informed the country's Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

 

According to information of the Ministry, winter grain planted areas in Ukraine faced good conditions throughout 2.27 million hectares, or 29.7% of the general areas. Winter crops throughout 2.89 million hectares of the plantings, or 37.8%, were in satisfactory condition. Nearly 22% of the areas, or 1.68 million hectares, showed weak and thinned condition. The perished crops areas totaled 0.8 million hectares (10.6%).

 

Agrarians received growing sprouts throughout 91.3% of the general areas of 8.39 million hectares planted with winter crops.

 

According to the Ministry, as of the reporting date, winter wheat plantings were in good condition throughout 1.92 million hectares or 31.4%, in satisfactory - 2.44 million hectares or 40%, weak and thinned condition - 1.33 million hectares or 21.8%.

 

Winter barley plantings showed good condition throughout 15.7% of the areas - 189,000 hectares, satisfactory condition - 27.2% of the areas or 329,000 hectares, weak and thinned condition - 24.6% of the areas or 297,000 hectares.

 

Winter rye planted areas were in good and satisfactory condition throughout 51.9% (160,000 hectares) and 38.7% (119,000 hectares), respectively. The areas with weak and thinned condition covered 23.7 thsd hectares (7.6%).

 

The general condition of winter rapeseed plantings faced little changes. In particular, 31.7% of winter rapeseed plantings showed good condition - 232,000 hectares, 28.7% or 210,000 hectares - satisfactory, 13.7% or 99.9 thsd hectares - weak and thinned.

 

According to the State Statics Service, Ukraine planted winter crops for grain and green fodder, including rapeseed, throughout 9.4 million hectares for the harvest of 2012, up 1.9% compared to the harvest in 2011. The planted areas under winter grains increased by 3.8% to the level of 8.4 million hectares.
