Indian milk cooperative raises prices of fresh pouch milk by US$0.02 per litre
India's Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which retails milk and milk products under the Amul brand, increased the prices of fresh pouch milk across all variants by around ₹2 (US$0.02) per litre on June 2.
The revised prices will be effective from June 3, GCMMF said in a statement.
The last time GCMMF had raised the milk price was in February 2023.
With the fresh hike, the revised milk prices for variants such as 500ml Amul buffalo milk, 500ml Amul Gold milk and 500ml Amul Shakti milk stand at ₹36 (US$0.43), ₹33 (US$0.40), and ₹30 (US$0.36), respectively.
"The hike is being done due to the rise in overall cost of operation and production of milk," the statement said. "Our member unions have also increased farmers' prices approximately by 6-8% over the past year.
"The price revision will help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production."
