France's milk production touches record high in April 2011-March 2012
In April 2011-March 2012, 24 billion litres of milk have been produced by some four million milk-producing cows of the Prim'Holstein race, a record high since end-1980s, according to data released by the statistical service of the agriculture ministry Agreste.
Prim'Holstein is the main strain of the black and white cows.
France processed about 60% of the milk produced in the country, with the French being among the world top consumers of cheese and butter.
The 2012-13 season also shows promising signs, Michel Nalet, spokesman of dairy products group Lactalis, said.
