Russia extends pork ban to Utah on AH1N1 flu fears

Russia has extended its pork ban on Utah, US state, over AH1N1 flu virus fears.

A ban on imports of all types of meat is currently applied to Mexico, Central American and Caribbean states, as well as the US states of Illinois, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin and Canada's Ontario province.

The ban is also applied to all raw and cooked meat products which may be carried in the personal luggage of passengers and crew, as well as to food served on board airplanes and ships which stopped in these states.

A softer ban on imports of live pigs and raw pork is applied to the US states of Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan and New York.

The same ban applies to the Canadian province of Quebec, the whole of Britain and the Japanese prefectures of Osaka, Hyogo and Shiga.

Earlier this week, the head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert said he believed the bans from the US states could be lifted shortly.
