Russia bans pork from Tyson, Independencia over E.coli contamination

The Russian federal food quality watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said it had banned pork from two Tyson Foods slaughterhouses in Iowa, a Brazilian Independencia SA plant in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and a plant in Paraguay.

The bans had been imposed due to E. coli bacteria found in their meat products.

Rosselkhoznadzor also banned pork from a Spanish slaughterhouse in Barcelona, and three Belgian slaughterhouses in Western Flanders and Liege, after discovering salmonella bacteria in meat shipments from those plants.

It said it had increased control over beef coming from a Cargill Meat Solutions plant in Kansas, pork from two Brazilian Sadia plants in Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina states and an Argentine plant.

Rosselkhoznadzor said additional control over products from these plants was needed due to discovery of banned and dangerous substances in their shipments.
