Novartis funds US$1.1 million into fish health research
Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis has handed US$1.1 million to Charlottetown's Atlantic Veterinary College to fund a research chair in fish health.
The money covers salary and a portion of research costs over five years.
Dean Don Reynolds said Tuesday (June 3) the new chair should help AVC establish itself in the world of research.
With the growth of aquaculture around the world, fish health is an emerging field in veterinary medicine.
The research chair's activities will be aimed at the advancement of the basic science of immunity, infection and pathology and the development of health products as an aid in the management of fish diseases.
