Yemen launches weight-based poultry sales system in Ibb Province
The Office of Economy, Industry, and Investment in Yemen has introduced weight-based poultry sales in Ibb province by distributing 160 free electronic scales to broiler chicken shops and sales points across the districts of Al-Dhahar, Al-Mashannah, and rural Ibb.
This step aims to regulate poultry prices, protect consumers from exploitation, and enhance transparency in this sector.
During the inauguration, Qasim Al-Masawi, the province Undersecretary for the Industrial Sector, emphasised the importance of selling poultry by weight to prevent price manipulation. He noted the significance of expanding this mechanism due to its positive impact in enabling consumers to obtain poultry meat at fair prices.
He added that marketing and selling poultry by weight fosters competition that benefits both producers and consumers.
Meanwhile, Hussein Al-Sharif, Director of the Office of Economy, Industry, and Investment in the province, described the weight-based sales mechanism as a shift toward organizing the poultry sector and safeguarding consumer rights.
He confirmed that scales would be distributed to poultry shops in the remaining districts during the second phase, stressing the need to intensify community awareness about the importance of selling poultry by weight.
