China reports foot and mouth disease outbreak in Tibet

China's veterinary experts have reported a further outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Tibet in which more cattle have been affected.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 4 on May 30, 2013, stating that out of 70 susceptible animals, eight cases were reported. While no deaths were recorded, all 70 animals were destroyed. The OIE is still not able to determine the cause of the FMD outbreaks.

Several control measures have been applied in an effort to prevent further spread of the disease.
