Widam Food to enter Qatar's poultry market worth US$124 million
At a cost of US$124 million, Qatar Meat & Livestock Co., known as Widam Food, is planning to diversify into poultry production.
Widam is waiting for a government license to build a processing plant with a capacity for 22 million chickens annually to sell in Qatar. Licensing has been delayed because land and water requirements need more study.
According to reports, Australian lamb accounts for 80% of Widam's meat imports. The meat is sold through the company's retail outlets at government subsidised prices.
