Pork production in Brazil dropped 1% in first three months this year
Brazil's pork production fell 1% in the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to preliminary first-quarter slaughter data published by IBGE.
The total amount of pork produced dropped from 1.29 million tonnes to 1.28 million tonnes.
On the other hand, Brazil's first-quarter export of pork saw a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to Agrostat/MAPA information. The increase occurred as, despite the significant reduction in exports to China (-37%), other key trading partners increased their purchases, such as the Philippines (+105%), Chile (+24%), Japan (112%) and Angola (+46%).
