French groups looking to import Thai shrimps
A group of French businessmen will visit Thailand on June 11 to negotiate the importing of Thai shrimp, according to Mingkwan Saengsuwan, Thai Commerce and deputy prime minister, on Sunday (June 1, 2008).
Senior executives of France's Casino Group plan to discuss purchasing Thai products and this would enable Thailand to export more products to France, said Mingkwan, who is currently in Peru to attend a trade ministers meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) grouping.
The Casino Group operates over 10,000 stores worldwide and is a leader in the French food retail sector.
Mingkwan has also spoken to executives of Tangfrere Group, which is also interested in importing Thai products.
Mingkwan said France could become a distribution centre for Thai product in the EU due to its advanced facilities.
