Argentina releases detained beef to EU

The Argentine government has released containers of beef held at the port of Buenos Aires bound for Europe.

The high quality Hilton quota to the EU was supposedly exempt from the Argentine Government's ban on beef exports imposed in March this year. However,  it has been detained in the port despite loud protests from European traders.

It is believed that the full Argentine Hilton quota (28,000 tonnes) of high quality beef would now reach Europe by the end of June 2006.

Meanwhile, the Argentine government has implemented an initiative, which aims to increase the cattle population and slaughter in the long term so as to lower cattle prices.
