Indonesian and Australian universities launch double master's degree in agricultural economics

The Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in Indonesia and the University of Western Australia (UWA) have agreed to establish a double master's degree programme in agricultural economics, according to an announcement from the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Australia, Antara reported.

The agreement was finalised during a recent meeting between IPB delegates and UWA representatives in Perth, Western Australia. Professors Yusman Syaukat and Hermanto Siregar from IPB's Agricultural Economics Postgraduate Program attended the meeting, along with the embassy's education and culture attache, Mukhamad Najib.

Representing UWA were Associate Professors Amin Mugera, Fay Rola-Rubzen, and Atakelty Hailu from the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment.

Under the agreement, postgraduate students from IPB and UWA enrolled in the dual program will study for one year at IPB and one year at UWA. The discussions also covered compulsory courses and the number of credits to be recognised by both universities.

Additionally, the parties addressed requirements for final theses and scientific publication manuscripts, which will be completed under the guidance of lecturers from both institutions.

The Indonesian Embassy in Canberra highlighted that IPB is actively seeking cooperation in double master's degree programmes with several world-class universities, including those in Australia. The Agricultural Economics Postgraduate Program at IPB is relatively new to international cooperation, particularly in establishing double master's degree programmes.

Education and culture attaché Najib stated that the Indonesian government is encouraging reputable universities in the country to build partnership programmes with overseas universities. He noted that the government fully supports the IPB-UWA cooperation, emphasising the opportunity to leverage the Endowment Funds for Education (LPDP) scholarship programme.
