Chicken production in Perak, Malaysia, exceeds state's self-sufficiency rate for five straight years

The production of meat and eggs involving chickens and ducks for Perak, Malaysia, is stable, with production levels for both commodities exceeding the state's self-sufficiency rate for five consecutive years.

State Rural Development, Plantations, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman (Exco) Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun said the production of chicken and duck meat was 372,825 tonnes and chicken and duck eggs amounted to 2.083 billion eggs last year, with those amounts meeting the needs of the people of Perak.

He said that in order to guarantee the production of meat and egg commodities, the Department of Veterinary Services carries out livestock disease control activities through the national animal disease surveillance programme to ensure disease outbreaks remain under control.

"Apart from that, law enforcement is also carried out continuously to ensure that the livestock industry complies with the regulations set," Harun said. "This matter can guarantee sufficient supply and safety of foodstuffs for the people of Perak."
