Russia's pig production reaches 1.6 million tonnes in first four months of 2021
In the first four months of 2021, Russia's pig production for slaughter in live weight increased by 2.1%, totaling 1.6 million tonnes, the country's Ministry of Agriculture reported.
The increase was mainly provided by agricultural producers in Tula, Pskov, Bryansk, Voronezh, Tomsk and Novosibirsk, the Republic of Mordovia and Mari El, Primorsky Krai.
One of the key factors contributing to the positive trends in the development of Russian livestock farming is the active use of state support measures.
This year, in order to provide additional support for the pork industry, the Russian government adopted a resolution that provides for the possibility of extending preferential loans to agricultural producers who incurred losses due to African swine fever last year. This measure applies to investment loans at a rate of up to 5% for construction, modernisation and renovation of production facilities and the purchase of machinery and equipment.
