Vietnam posts record low pork prices in May

The record low prices of pork were instrumental in Vietnam's lower consumer price index (CPI) recorded in May.

Data released by the General Statistics Office (GSO) showed that the Southeast Asian country's CPI this month fell by 0.53% compared with April, although it was still up by 3.19% against May 2016.

Experts said that lower CPI was just temporary, owing to the lower food prices, including that of pork, Dtinews reported.

The report said that for the rest of the year, Vietnam faces a high risk of higher inflation due to higher prices of medical services and electricity.

Pork prices in Vietnam were reported to range from 20,000 dong (88 US cents) to 26,000 dong ($1.14) per kilogramme, a record low.
