Vietnam has sufficient supplies of pork this year
Vietnam has stable supplies of pork from local production and the country does not have to import this kind of meat in 2011, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
The local animal husbandry in general and the pig breeding in particular are increasing, and the sector will supply enough meat for the country's demand in the remaining times of this year, the ministry said.
The demand for pork is decreasing in the May-September period. The Ministry forecasts that foot-and-mouth and blue-ear diseases are under control.
During Jan-April, the country produced 1.4 million tonnes of pigs equal to 960,000 tonnes of pork while the country's consumption was about 980,000 tonnes.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said it did not approve any plans for pork imports so far this year. It also gave no licenses for local firms to import pork meat.
