China's poultry vaccinated in response to outbreak of bird flu

With the outbreak of bird flu in the north-west province of Qinghai, China, more than 1.5 million birds have been vaccinated there. This was to prevent the virus from spreading to domestic animals and humans.

According to the provincial headquarters in charge of serious animal epidemic prevention and control, the vaccination campaign is shifting to the vital eastern poultry-raising region.

Vaccinations for farmed birds are conducted by veterinarians on an individual household level across the province. Epidemic education and mandatory reports to specific government departments about new cases of infected poultry are required.
