Elpa i.e. and Rokiškio Suris open dairy plant in Estonia
Estonia's biggest exporter of raw milk, Elpa i.e., and Lithuanian Rokiškio Suris, have opened a dairy plant in Ambla parish, Järvamaa County, which uses technology unique in Europe, LETA/Äripäev.ee reports.
Elpa i.e. owners Arnold Kannike and Kristjan Linkov said that their company has transported Estonian raw milk to Lithuania for many years, delivering more than 300 tonnes of milk per day to the Rokiškio Suris factory.
Kannike said that a factory was opened in Jõgisoo, Ambla parish where the dry substance of milk is condensed to 24% and thus transportation cost is reduced by half. "Milk that is condensed this way goes to Lithuania, to the Rokiškio Suris AB dairy industry and will be processed into cheese there," he added.
Rokiškio Suris board member Evaldas Dikmonas praised cooperation with its partner in Estonia and said that a factory using similar technology existed so far only in New Zealand.
