France's beef imports to resume supply to UAE

Beef import from France will be joining the boneless beef cuts at supermarkets across the emirates after Canadian and British beef imports were approved all over the UAE, according to officials, media report said.

The French beef industry on Thursday (May 24) made an announcement that said the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water has approved the beef imports into the country by approving import certificates.

Previously, shipments of French beef had been suspended by the country due to the fear of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in the late 2000.

During that period, media reports stated that 153 cows were affected with the mad cow disease in France, and countries such as the UAE had to stop French beef imports. Mad cow disease can prove to be dangerous to humans as it attacks the central nervous system.

Now with French beef receiving the nod in terms of health status, shipments of the meat may soon find their way into the UAE from France, said officials.
