First for Argentina to export chilled boneless pork to Uruguay

Argentina will export chilled boneless pork to Uruguay for the first time.

The shipment will have an approximate value of US$2,500 per tonne and opens a new destination with great potential for Argentina's products. Three slaughterhouses would be authorised by Senasa Argentina in regards to such shipments.

In 2023, Uruguay imported 49,000 tonnes of pork, 96% of which was supplied by Brazil.

Argentine pork is highly valued outside the country, thanks to the genetic quality achieved by producers, according to the Bioeconomy Secretariat. Argentina does not use ractopamine as an anabolic, unlike other countries. This considerably improves the competitiveness of its pork.

Meanwhile, the Argentine Pork Federation and the Uruguayan Pig Breeders Society will sign a cooperation agreement to work on improvements for pork production in Argentina and Uruguay.
