China VC: Prices fall amid mounting inventory pressure (week ended May 24, 2021)

Demand for the aquaculture sector was weaker than expected, hence resulting in excess supplies. Producers cut prices amid mounting inventory pressure.

In the local market, 99% raw powder vitamin C prices dropped to the range of RMB39.60-47/kg. Prices of 93% coated products consolidated around RMB39.60-49/kg whereas those of 35% phosphorylated ones were lower in the range of RMB16.50-19/kg.

Export prices of 98% coated products and 35% phosphorylated products fell to US$6.10/kg and US$2.55/kg respectively.

With sales slow, producers will be compelled to hold down prices in a bid to stimulate vitamin C sales. Nonetheless, sales are unlikely to increase tremendously with feed producers treading prudently.
