Pakistan buys more than one million tonnes of wheat

Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation Limited (PASSCO) has bought over one million tonnes of wheat under its wheat procurement drive 2013.

PASSCO's Managing Director Tauqeer Ahmad visited Multan, Lodhran, Bahwalnagar, Khanewaland Vehari zones and monitored procurement activities on spot. Director General (DG) also issued instructions to PASSCO staff accordingly on different aspects of procurement. Wheat procurement is in progress by PASSCO that is why the growers are asked to bring their crops to procurement centres of PASSCO as early as possible to obtain benefit from support price announced by Pakistan government.

Spokesman claimed that it is expected that price of wheat would fall down after achieving the targets by government's organisations for which the growers will have to bear loss who have held their crop with a view to achieve high price in future. DG PASSCO also instructed PASSCO staff regarding better storage and care of the new procured wheat so that the same should be prevented from pest infestation and inclement weather.
