Malaysian Agriculture Ministry speeding up payments to poultry producer
Malaysia's Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry (MAFI) will dispatch more personnel to accelerate subsidy payments to poultry breeders in order to boost domestic production, Bernama reported.
According to MAFI, just MYR 50 million (~US$11.3 million; MYR 1 = US$0.23) in subsidies have been handed out so far, despite a total subsidy of MYR 729.43 million (~US$165 million) being allotted under the Keluarga Malaysia Price Control Scheme since February 5, in line with the regular chicken ceiling price of MYR 8.90 (~US$2.03) per kg.
The decision came after a meeting between Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee and 12 industry participants and breeders' organisations, including Leong Hup Poultry Farm Sdn Bhd, HLRB Broiler Farm Sdn Bhd, PWF Corporation Bhd, and the Selangor Poultry Breeders Association.
The Veterinary Services Department will continue to simplify and speed up the subsidy claim procedure for chicken breeders, according to MAFI, in order to increase the operations of food producers.
MAFI said that participants in the engagement session indicated a commitment to continue supplying chicken to suit the demands of local customers.
