AI software developed by Connecterra alerts farmers to sick cows
Dutch agritech firm Connecterra has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) software that alerts cattlemen whenever their cows are ailing, which can in turn result in decreased antibiotic use, The Cattle Site reported.
Called Ida, the intelligent dairy assistant can reduce the recovery time of cows by more than half, as shown in a scientific field study, as per report.
Ida uses a sensor, cloud computing, integration of data sources and artificial intelligence for early detection of cow diseases including ketosis, mastitis and digestive problems.
Ida serves as a second pair of eyes that can spot early signs of anomalies in cow behaviour, which are often the first signs of sickness.
Preventing cows to become clinically ill would reduce the number of days the cows need to be treated with veterinary medicine, such as antibiotics.
"It is the first time that such a field trial has been done to test the use of sensor technology in relation to treatment days", said Niels Rutten, researcher at Connecterra and coordinator of the trial.
"The latest results over 2019 are impressive and confirm what we have seen in the first year (2018) of the trial".
