Dutch meatpacking plant near Germany border reports 147 COVID-19 cases
The Vion Food Group plant in Groenlo, Arnhem situated next to the German city of Muenster reported 147 COVID-19 cases among its 657 total workers in the plant, Reuters reported.
From the 147 cases, 68 are Dutch and 79 are German. The plant was ordered to close by health authorities after 45 COVID-19 cases were reported on May 20.
Ton Heerts, from regional security agency VNOG said the townships will answer queries from residents and provide assistance to COVID-19 affected companies. He added that the regional health authorities are conducting contact tracing to find out if there other people who have been in contact with infected worers.
The COVID-19 pandemic has also affected meatpacking plants and abattoirs in northwest Germany.
45,236 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Netherlands with 5,822 deaths.
