Aviagen buys New York hatchery

According to Morris Northstar Hatchery, it has been bought for US$2.93 million by Aviagen North America.

The 2,600-square-metre facility at the Jefferson County Corporate Park off outer Coffeen Street was sold by its Miami-based parent company to Aviagen. The company's website states that its chicks are sold to customers in 130 countries worldwide under three brand names.

Jeffrey L. Pierce, vice president of Morris Northstar, said Aviagen will retain all employees at the facility under the takeover deal. "The new company will employ more people," said Pierce, who could not say how many jobs would be created. "Right now, it's just business as usual because this is so new."

Marla Robinson, marketing manager for Aviagen, could not immediately be reached by Watertown Daily Times on Friday for comment.
