China Bans 2 More Trading Houses From Selling Brazil Soybeans
China has banned two more trading houses from selling Brazilian soybeans to China, citing cargo contamination, the Guangdong branch of the State Administration of Quality Supervision reported on its Web site.
The latest ban follows the discovery of a cargo of Brazilian soybeans with a seed coating agent known to be harmful to both humans and animals.
"In order to ensure consumer health, the State Administration of Quality and Supervision decided to temporarily ban Louis Dreyfus Asia Pte Ltd. and ADM Do Brasil LTDA from selling any Brazilian soybeans to China," said the report, dated May 23.
Cargoes shipped before the latest ban are allowed to enter China as long as they are considered safe after standard inspection and quarantine procedures, the report said.
Louis Dreyfus exported the cargo, which arrived in Guangdong province, while the suppliers of the cargo were ADM Do Brasil LTDA, Cargill Agricola S/A and Bianchini S/A Industria Comercio E Agricultura, according to the report.
This latest decision by the State Administration of Quality Supervision brings the total number of blacklisted Brazilian soybean suppliers to six, according to the Guangdong Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Association.
