Colombia sees dramatic drop in daily production of pork
Columbia, whose daily production of pork was 1,300 tonnes, now sees 720 tonnes per day of the meat not produced and marketed.
The decline amounted to losses for the pork sector, reaching $100,000 million. This was mainly related to cost overruns due to increased farm inventory and low sales.
The welfare of the animals was also affected, as they are at risk of death or malnutrition due to the lack of feed that has not been able to reach 5,700 farms.
The volume of pork available to consumers in Columbia has fallen between 50% and 80% depending on the degree to which the product has been affected.
