Ukraine's spring grain sowing reaches nearly 100%

 

 

As of May 21, 2012, Ukraine sowed spring grains and leguminous crops over the areas of 8.78 million hectares, or 99% of the plan, according to operative data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

 

Agrarians planted corn for grain throughout 4.5 million hectares (101%) of the planned 4.45 million hectares.

 

Agrarians already planted sorghum throughout 145,000 hectares (73% of the plan), buckwheat - 242,000 hectares (86%) and millet - 170,000 hectares (73%).

 

Besides, Ukraine planted soy throughout 1.287 million hectares, or 99% of the plan, sunflower seed - 3.98 million hectares, or 97%.

 

Also, as of May 21, agrarians re-planted the perished winter grain areas throughout 1.295 million hectares, or 85% of the forecast, including 1.01 million hectares of spring grains (436,000 hectares of barley, 441,000 hectares of corn, almost 54,000 hectares of sorghum, 282,000 hectares of other spring crops).
